WhatsApp Officially Tests Multi-Account Support on iOS, Ending the Need for Workarounds
WhatsApp has initiated
the beta testing phase for its highly anticipated multi-account
feature on iOS, a significant move that will soon allow iPhone users to manage
two separate accounts on one device seamlessly This development, currently
available to a select group of beta testers via TestFlight with version 25.34.10.72,
brings a level of convenience previously exclusive to Android users since late 2023.
For years, iPhone users have resorted
to cumbersome workarounds, such as using the separate
WhatsApp Business app or carrying a second device, to manage multiple numbers. The introduction of native support for this "Multi-Account" feature
is set to eliminate these hurdles, catering to the growing number of users who
rely on distinct phone numbers for personal and professional communication.
Seamless Switching and Complete Data Separation
The new feature
is designed for efficiency and privacy, allowing users to switch between
accounts directly from the app's settings without the need to log out. Early
reports from the beta version indicate a new "Account List" section
within the settings menu, or a dedicated button next to the QR code icon, to
facilitate adding and managing a second account.
has
emphasized that each account will function independently, ensuring complete
separation of data. This means that chat histories, media, backup
configurations, privacy settings, and even notification tones will be unique to
each account, preventing any overlap between personal and work profiles.
- To avoid confusion, notifications for incoming messages will clearly specify which account has received them, allowing users to respond from the correct profile. The update is also expected to include shortcuts for rapid switching, such as a long press on the settings tab, and will be compatible with existing security features like App Lock using Face ID or Touch ID.
How to Add a Second Account (in Beta)
Beta testers can
add a second account in one of three ways:
1- Register a new
phone number that has not been previously used with WhatsApp.
2- Link an existing
account already in use on another device or through WhatsApp Business
3- Add a companion account
by scanning a QR code from a primary device, which will then sync messages and
settings.
Phased Rollout and Future Availability
The multi-accountfeature is currently in a limited beta phase and is expected to be rolled out progressively to more testers in the coming weeks as performance is optimized and feedback is gathered.
While there is no official timeline for a full
public release, its appearance in the public beta suggests a wider launch is on
the horizon, finally bringing this essential functionality to the broader
iPhone user base.
